🔧 How to Prevent Your Outdoor Hose Bib from Freezing

By MC Plumbing Services Ltd.

To help prevent frozen or burst pipes during cold weather, start by disconnecting your garden hose from the outdoor hose bib.

Next, locate the shut-off valve for that hose bib. This is typically found inside the home, in the basement, or in the ceiling. Once located, turn the valve off completely.

After shutting off the water, look for the small drain or bleeder cap on the valve itself. This can usually be unscrewed by hand. Place a small bucket underneath to catch any water as the line drains, then you can install the cap back in.

Finally, go outside and open the hose bib fully to allow any remaining water and air to escape.👉 Leave the hose bib open until spring to prevent trapped water from freezing and causing damage.
